Lewis County Adirondack River Country has some of the wildest forests and rivers found in the state as well as some of the most lush and productive farmland.

Fields of wheat, corn and pasture spread before visitors in a patchwork quilt, spring, summer and fall. Many of the fields are cultivated with horse-drawn plows by Amish Mennonites. Their buggies are often seen on the roads and their food products and handicrafts are sold at Saturday farmers markets and roadside stands.

The Black and Beaver Rivers provide flatwater and whitewater thrills for paddlers, while Lake Bonaparte is a popular summertime destination for boaters. ...more
