The Tug Hill plateau of Lewis County is known nationally as the recipient of consistent lake-effect snows. The area is traversed via hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails in the winter, with restaurants and lodging along the way. Proprietors are experienced hands at catering to snowmobilers' needs. The county also provides premier snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing opportunities. Other months of the year offer a wide range of activities as noted below.

Lewis County is renowned for its cheese, maple syrup and Croghan bologna. Don't pass through without sampling all three!
